CYCLE TRAINING WEEKS

Example of an "Allons-y" cycle week
A good level of cycling is required for this
example week but we can organise a weeks cycling including more or less time on
the bike, whatever you require.
Saturday
Arrival.
Discussion of week’s plans/routes; chance to
make any changes or just for us to answer any questions you might have about the
week ahead.
Sunday
Start your week’s cycling with a ride from the
base in Thuy. You can choose your ride today from our selection of routes. We
can recommend your choice of rides on arrival.
Monday
Ride out from our base at Thuy towards Bagneres
de Bigorre taking in some spectacular views as you climb up through the
foothills of the Pyrenees.
Then the first real challenge of the week is the
Col d’Aspin, approx 13k to the summit and then its twisty descent down to the
town of Arreau.
From there you head along the valley towards St
Lary Soulan where you will start the final climb of the day to the 2005 Tour de
France stage finish of Pla d’Adet. (approx 11k of climbing). With the descent
the day’s ride is approx 95k.
We will meet you back in the ski town of St Lary
for the return journey in the bus, unless you want an extra challenge, in which
case you can continue with the 19k climb to the Tunnel de Bielsa 1820m on the
Spanish border.
Tuesday
Choose from our ride cards today depending on
how tired your legs are!
Wednesday
Climb the Col d’Aubisque 1709 metres 17k and the
famous Tour de France climb to Luz Ardiden 1720m, approx 15k climb. The two
climbs together with descents and distances between, add up to a ride of approx
80k which can easily be extended if you want a longer day in the saddle.
Thursday
If you feel the need for a rest then today’s the
day!
For those still wanting to cycle then you can
choose from a ride card riding out from Thuy or if there is a particular col or
climb that you have that desire to conquer, then we can arrange that for you.

Friday
The "Allons-y"
Twin Col Challenge.
We are running a challenge this year to find the
quickest cyclist to complete the "Allons-y" challenge.
There is a prize at the end of the year for the
winning rider!
The clock starts ticking at the base of the Col
d’Aspin in Arreau. You will climb the opposite side from earlier in the week,
again 13k to the summit, then down into St Marie de Campan where you will start
the famous climb up to the Col de Tourmalet 2115m through the ski station of La
Mongie, a leg burning 18k. The clock stops as you reach the top!
Although this is a relatively short day in the
saddle your legs will certainly know about it!
Once again if you wish to extend the day’s ride
it is very easy to do so.
Saturday
Depart.
We can tailor your week's
cycling according to how much of a challenge you want. You let us know how far
you want to ride each day and if there are climbs that you want to incorporate
we will organize the routes for you.
The cycle weeks can be run on a self catering
basis with full vehicle backup on the mountain ride days, or we can offer fully
catered cycle weeks including airport transfers.
